Calling ALL Map Makers!!

Students have been busy making maps at school and home. Please send in any maps your child makes, We would love to have your child share it with the class. Also if you have any maps (e.g. globes, flat maps etc.), our class would enjoy investigating them. We even had a map made that gave directions to Santa about how to get to a student's house:)))

Thanks,
Mrs. Laforest and Ms. Boyer

Our First School ASSEMBLY!

On Friday, our class attended our first Student of the Month Assembly. We enjoyed a presentation from the Grade 2 students on Friendship and Empathy. Our Vice Principal Mrs. Tullio complimented the Kindergarten Classes on their wonderful and quiet behaviour. Way to go JK/SK's!!!!

Maps: Part Two!

We have really been enjoying our inquiry on maps this week. One of the students came in this morning with a wonderful mini map they made at home last night which showed how Santa went from their house and the North Pole. We decided to try and blow it up with the photocopier so they can add more detail and colour before they shared it with the class.

Most of the morning was spent creating our very own maps of many different places, both fictional and non fictional. The group was very excited to share their work with the rest of the class.

Maps!

We've had a large inquiry about maps in our classroom this week. I wonder where they will lead us to next...

Better HANDWASHING leads to improved health...

Mrs. Bhanks and her Grade 7 and 8 students came to teach our students about HANDWASHING. What a wonderful presentation...the black light was so neat!

It's time to move it, move it!

We had lots of fun this morning in the gym getting our bodies moving and getting our heartbeats racing.

Goodbye Mrs. D!

Today we had to say goodbye to part of our Dr. David Suzuki family. Mrs. D is moving to a new school and we will no longer be able to spend every morning with her. We were all very sad to see her leave. It won't be the same without her. Here is a little video from us to you Mrs. D:

Right before she left today, she left us a wonderful gift:

Come visit us soon!!!

Letter Fun

We have been spending a lot of time working on letters and letter sounds. Today we did a winter themed highlighting page with alphabet flashcards. The children took turns picking a flashcard, identifying the letter of the alphabet and the sound the letter makes. Then they used the dabbers to highlight the corresponding letter on the recording sheet. We took turns until all the letters were revealed.

Just a reminder that there are many literacy games that you can find online and play at home to help encourage your children's literacy growth both at school and at home. These are a few of our favourite videos that we use during our literacy activities:

Kindergarten Meditation

After a very busy day we decided to do a little meditation. We found a calming video to listen to and the children were asked to think about how the music made them feel and what the music made them think about.

After the video was done we had a group discussion about what the music made us think about and how it made them feel and then they drew a picture of it in their journal.

Some of the students thought about sleeping, O Canada, horses, their family, being happy, and the teachers in our class.
